Ask. Seek. Knock. Believe.
by PJ Salas
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and they who seek find, and to those who knock it will be opened. For who among you, if your child asks for bread, will give him a stone? …If you then, being sinful, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask Him!" Matthew 7:7-11.
These verses speak encouragement to us. They assure us of our heavenly Father’s love, and declare His concern for our needs and wants. Lovingly, our Creator grants our necessities, and those wants that do us no harm.
Because the Lord desires our good He wants us to be provided for, advanced, and heartened. Notably, often in the daily busyness we get caught up in ourselves, in our families, and in work; and we easily forget that it is God who is providing for us. He gives opportunities and ability, He benefits and advantages us, improving our lives.
Indeed, it is important to realize that God never withholds good from us. Correspondingly, we must consider when things do not go our way, God is doing better things of which we may have no knowledge or understanding. Nevertheless, God is always busy working to better our lives.
God is Welcoming and Generous
Reading Matthew chapter seven, verses seven through eleven, calls to mind another verse, “If anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all, liberally, without reproach” (James 1:5). This is God’s manner toward us, generous and welcoming.
Remarkably, the Lord does not scold us for coming and seeking good things from Him; rather He invites and encourages our communications. He longs to provide for us all that we need, and even want, if we are not harmed by it.
Needs and Wants
Sometimes the things we think we need and want are not good for us, and will hurt us if God grants them. Decidedly, we move forward trusting in the Lord, knowing He withholds no good thing from us (Psalms 84:11).
Of significance, is remembering that God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, loves us deeply. Passionately and tenderly our heavenly Father cares about what we are in need of, and what we want; He desires our good!
Moreover, if we live our lives in faith, knowing our Lord wants what is best for us, then with confidence and certainty we can trust that whatever we ask we will have, that which we seek, we will find, and the door we knock on will open.
Assuredly, whatever is in our best interest will be given us, for we serve a generously kind and thoughtful God, who whole heartedly delights to do us good and benefit us best. We are His well-beloved children.
Ask. Seek. Knock. Believe.
"For the Lord God is a bright light and a shield. The Lord gives grace and glory. No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Oh Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in You!" Psalms 84:11,12.
